Controversial musician Speed Darlington has taken legal action against NAPTIP, filing a N3 billion lawsuit over defamation.
He insists that the agency’s decision to declare him wanted publicly was baseless, damaging, and legally unjustifiable.
Speed Darlington sues NAPTIP in a case filed July 9, 2025, at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Moreover, his team of female lawyers is asking the court to grant a perpetual injunction against further defamation.
The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1354/2025, challenges the June 27 public notice branding him a wanted person across national media.
NAPTIP’s publication, which included his photo and full name, circulated widely online and in print, prompting intense backlash.
Consequently, Darlington claims the notice exposed him to public ridicule and threats, while also endangering his personal safety.
Additionally, Speed Darlington sues NAPTIP for allegedly violating his right to a fair hearing before any public accusations.
Before this suit, NAPTIP had accused him of engaging in sexual activity with a minor and evading investigation.
In response, the agency placed him on an international watchlist and alerted Interpol and other security agencies globally.
However, the musician denies all accusations and, in a viral TikTok video, declared he would not honour the summons.
He argues that his online statements were misinterpreted and that no legal process had been followed properly by NAPTIP.
Meanwhile, NAPTIP’s spokesperson Vincent Adekoye described him as dangerous, urging foreign governments to detain and extradite him.
Despite that, Darlington’s lawyers maintain that his rights were breached and the agency acted without judicial authorization or evidence.
Speed Darlington sues NAPTIP to defend his name and reputation, calling the agency’s actions excessive and unconstitutional.
