The Court of Appeal has overturned the decision to dismiss Martin Amaewhule and 24 other members from their positions in the Rivers State House of Assembly, reinstating their status as assembly members and reversing the previous judgment that had removed them from office. The Court of Appeal’s action has annulled the order of Justice C.N. Wali of the Rivers State High Court and emphasized that only the Federal High Court has jurisdiction to determine cases of tenures and vacancies of the House of Assembly, Governors, and President, not the State High Courts.

The appellate court ruled that there was no dispute on the speakership of Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewule from the records, affirming his position as the speaker. This decision by the Court of Appeal brings clarity to the situation surrounding Martin Amaewhule and the 24 other members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, reinstating their positions and underscoring the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court in matters concerning tenures and vacancies of governmental roles. The ruling solidifies Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewule’s position as the speaker, emphasizes the significance of legal processes in upholding democratic principles.

This legal triumph not only reinstates the assembly members to their rightful positions but also establishes a precedent for future cases involving governmental roles. The ruling serves as a reminder of the critical role the judiciary plays in upholding the rule of law and ensuring the proper functioning of democratic institutions. The clarity provided by the Court of Appeal’s decision brings stability and legitimacy to the leadership of Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewule and the overall functioning of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The legal victory achieved by Martin Amaewhule and his allies in the Court of Appeal marks a significant turning point in the political landscape of the Rivers State House of Assembly. With their reinstatement, the assembly members can now resume their duties and fulfill their responsibilities to the people they represent. This decision not only upholds the rule of law but also safeguards the democratic principles that underpin our society. The leadership of Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewule is now solidified, ensuring stability and legitimacy in the functioning of the assembly.
The reinstatement of Martin Amaewhule and his allies by the Court of Appeal signifies a victory for justice and democracy in the Rivers State House of Assembly. Their return to office brings stability and legitimacy to the leadership, allowing them to continue serving the people with integrity and dedication. This legal triumph sets a precedent for future cases involving governmental roles, emphasizing the importance of upholding the rule of law and respecting the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court in such matters. The resilience and perseverance shown by Martin Amaewhule and his allies in this legal battle highlight their commitment to democratic principles and the well-being of the constituents they represent.
