Tanko Foresees Peter Obi’s Presidency in 2027, Pledges Action to Overcome Electoral Challenges

Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the ‘Obidient Movement,’ has expressed confidence that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, will emerge as Nigeria’s president in the 2027 elections. Speaking at a symposium titled “Repositioning the Obidient Movement for Greater Impact” in Onitsha, Anambra State. Tanko highlighted the movement’s resolve to overcome challenges and ensure a fairer electoral process in the future.

Tanko attributed Obi’s 2023 electoral defeat to widespread malpractice, despite the strong backing he received from Nigerians. He assured the movement’s supporters that significant efforts would be made to address these issues by better preparing and training electoral agents ahead of the 2027 elections. “Peter Obi’s victory was unjustly denied in 2023, but we will not allow that to happen again,” Tanko vowed.

The National Coordinator stressed the movement’s commitment to pushing for electoral reforms, promoting good governance, and ensuring justice and fairness in Nigeria’s political system. He also called for a more independent and impartial process in the appointment of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to eliminate presidential interference and uphold the integrity of future elections.

Prof. Stella Okunna, who chaired the event, emphasized the importance of good governance and commended the movement’s efforts in mobilizing support. Labour Party’s Anambra 2025 governorship aspirant, Valentine Ozigbo, encouraged unity within the movement, stressing the need for collective action to achieve their goals. He also presented a policy document, “Ka Anambra Chawapu,” which lays out plans, for the future development of the state.

Economist Prof. Pat Utomi, who addressed the gathering virtually, urged the movement to maintain unity and engage strategically, highlighting the significance of well-planned actions to bring about meaningful change in Nigeria’s political landscape.
