A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bashir Bakari, has announced his resignation from the party, citing prolonged lack of recognition and inclusiveness.
Bakari, who hails from Majidadi Ward in Jalingo Local Government Council of Taraba State, made his decision known in a letter addressed to the APC Ward Chairman at the weekend. He said the resignation takes immediate effect.
In the letter, Bakari stated that his decision followed years of loyalty and contributions to the party that, according to him, were not adequately acknowledged.
He recalled that he contested as an aspirant for the Jalingo II Constituency in the 2023 elections and also served as a member of the Tinubu Presidential Campaign Council (TPCC) during the same election cycle.
Despite these roles, Bakari said he experienced unfair treatment and a lack of internal party democracy, which ultimately informed his decision to leave the APC.
He also said the move was taken after careful consideration and consultations with his supporters and stakeholders, adding that he intends to explore other platforms where his political aspirations and capacity can be better utilised.
