The Boston Celtics orchestrated a late surge to propel themselves into overtime against the Indiana Pacers, ultimately securing a 133-128 victory in game one of the Eastern Conference Finals on Tuesday.
Jaylen Brown of Boston skillfully executed a three-point shot from the corner with a mere 6.1 seconds left on the clock, leveling the score at 117-117, thus leading the game into overtime.
Subsequently, Jayson Tatum delivered a pivotal three-point shot in the final moments, propelling the Celtics to triumph and a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.
Tatum was the leading scorer for Boston, amassing 36 points, with 10 of those crucial points scored during overtime. He also secured 12 rebounds and four assists, while Brown contributed 26 points and Jrue Holiday added 28.

On the other side, the Indiana Pacers valiantly fought back from significant deficits multiple times throughout the game. They were led by Tyrese Haliburton, who scored 25 points, assisted with 10, and grabbed three rebounds, while Pascal Siakam added 24 points, seven assists, and 12 rebounds.
Despite their victory, Brown expressed discontent with Boston’s performance, especially considering their nearly week-long break following a 4-1 series win over Cleveland.
Reflecting on the game, Brown, a three-time All-Star, remarked, “We experienced various highs and lows, and I believe we did not perform at our peak. We nearly lost the game on our home court. Hence, we must elevate our game.”

The Pacers entered the match after a grueling game of seven victories against the New York Knicks, and the Celtics swiftly gained momentum.
Capitalizing on the evident struggles of the Pacers, Al Horford’s 26-foot three-pointer resulted in a 12-0 lead for Boston. Despite Indiana’s resurgence, they managed to even the score at 64-64 by halftime.
Boston surged ahead with a 13-point run in the third quarter, leading 87-77. However, Indiana made a strong comeback and took a commanding 115-100 lead with less than two minutes left on the clock.
Indiana’s turnovers in the final 30 seconds of regulation paved the way for Brown’s critical three-pointer over Siakam, which forced the game into overtime.
Tatum’s step-back three-pointer with 43 seconds remaining extended Boston’s lead to four points. Eventually, Derrick White’s layup increased the advantage to six with 25 seconds left, securing the win for the Celtics.
Brown acknowledged their ability to make crucial plays at the game’s conclusion but emphasized the need for improvement. Pacers’ head coach Rick Carlisle took responsibility for the loss, admitting that key decisions led to the game extending into overtime.
Acknowledging the team’s mistakes, Carlisle emphasized the importance of rectifying errors and maintaining resilience for the upcoming game.
