The President of Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (PHCCIMA), Dr. Chinyere Nwoga, has lauded the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), on its critical role in safeguarding Nigerian workers’ welfare.
She stated that she was impressed with the organisation as they provide financial support during challenging times, as mandated by the Employees’ Compensation Act.
Dr. Nwoga, made the commendation when she received a delegation who paid her a courtesy visit in her office, in Port Harcourt, today, led by the Regional Manager of NSITF, Mr. Hycinth Chidozie.
She urged NSITF to uphold transparency, accountability, and ethical standards in its operations, saying that PHCCIMA is committed in supporting NSITF’s objectives and pledges to establish NSITF Desk Office at PHCCIMA to enhance accessibility and visibility for its members.
” PHCCIMA’s mission is to foster business growth through its trade groups and networking opportunities, positioning the Chamber as a hub for significant business prospects.
” PHCCIMA’s role is also to engage government agencies on behalf of its members.” She said.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Mr. Chidozie said
NSITF will partner with PHCCIMA in advancing its Employee Compensation Scheme( ECS), adding that the partnership is expected to leverage on PHCCIMA’s extensive network of member companies and to enhance the scheme.
“The ECS ensures financial support and rehabilitation for affected workers while maintaining a solvent compensation fund managed in the interest of both employees and employers.
“NSITF’s vision is to become Africa’s leading social security institution, driving change, social policy, economic empowerment, and poverty alleviation in Nigeria”, he said.
He enumerated the mission, as established under the Employees’ Compensation Act of 2010, to provide fair, guaranteed, and adequate compensation for employees or their dependents in cases of workplace-related injury, disease, disability, or death.
The Regional Manager used the forum to congratulate Dr. Chinyere Nwoga on her historic appointment as the first female PHCCIMA President and emphasis the importance of rekindling ties with PHCCIMA to support the ECS mandate.
