President Bola Tinubu has pledged to eliminate barriers stifling Nigeria’s agriculture sector through a strategic Brazil partnership.
During a bilateral meeting with President Lula da Silva in Brazil, Tinubu emphasized Nigeria’s commitment to food sovereignty reforms.
The Tinubu Brazil agriculture partnership aims to remove technical bottlenecks affecting trade, livestock, and energy cooperation between both nations.
Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga confirmed the meeting, stating Nigeria will modernize agricultural policies to attract international collaboration.
Tinubu said bureaucracy had hindered development and promised decisive reforms to make Nigerian agriculture globally competitive again.
He pointed to livestock as a priority area, highlighting Nigeria’s push to scale poultry, fisheries, and cattle production nationwide.
The Tinubu Brazil agriculture partnership will also explore Nigeria’s blue economy and marine resources to create jobs and boost exports.
President Tinubu praised Brazil’s excellence in agricultural research and expressed interest in replicating its food production models in Nigeria.
He stated that federal and state governments must act swiftly to make agriculture Nigeria’s engine for jobs and revenue.
Brazilian President Lula da Silva pledged his country’s full support, promising to update bilateral agreements during Tinubu’s future visit.
Brazil agreed to collaborate on livestock farming, focusing on animal health, sanitation, and advanced genetic research for improved yields.
Minister of Agriculture, Abubakar Kyari, reiterated Nigeria’s competitive edge in fertiliser production and commitment to food security strategies.
Minister of Livestock Development, Idris Maiha, outlined cooperation priorities: animal health systems, sanitation controls, and livestock genetics advancement.
Governor Dapo Abiodun confirmed a Brazil-Nigeria business forum is underway to attract new investment in agriculture and agri-tech solutions.
Other governors from Benue, Lagos, Niger, and Delta reinforced state-level backing for the Tinubu Brazil agriculture partnership.
