President Bola Tinubu, on Monday, officially inaugurated eight newly appointed federal permanent secretaries and 18 commissioners of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) in a ceremony held at the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja. The swearing-in took place just before the commencement of the first Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting of 2025.
The new permanent secretaries, drawn from various states, are expected to play a crucial role in driving policy implementation within the civil service. Their appointment aligns with the federal government’s objective of strengthening the efficiency of the civil service by placing experienced administrators in key positions.
Similarly, the swearing-in of 18 RMAFC commissioners signals a renewed focus on revenue allocation and fiscal responsibility. These officials, whose appointments were confirmed by the Senate last August, are tasked with ensuring fair distribution of revenue among federal, state, and local governments. Tinubu reiterated that their roles are critical in maintaining economic stability and enhancing financial transparency in the public sector.
Among those sworn in was Hon. Kayode Oladele, a former Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Financial Crimes, who now represents Ogun State at the Federal Character Commission. Similarly, Mrs. Olukemi Victoria Iyantan from Ondo State took the oath as a commissioner for the National Population Commission (NPC).
Following the inauguration, the first FEC meeting of 2025 commenced with a moment of silence in honor of former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Jeremiah Useni, who passed away on January 23, 2025. The meeting, attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and several federal ministers, is expected to set the tone for key policy decisions in the year ahead.
