President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday inaugurated the newly constructed Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks in Abuja, an initiative aimed at addressing accommodation shortages for Nigerian Army personnel. During the event, the President lauded the armed forces for their sacrifices and reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to improving their welfare. Tinubu referred to the military personnel as national heroes, emphasising their pivotal role in ensuring the nation’s security and stability.
In his remarks, President Tinubu acknowledged the significance of the barracks and other facilities commissioned under the Nigerian Army Special Projects. He underscored the Federal Government’s dedication to supporting the troops, stating that prioritizing their welfare is essential for boosting morale and enhancing operational efficiency. “We are committed to ensuring your welfare is not compromised because it is key to winning battles,” Tinubu affirmed.
The Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks, equipped with modern facilities, was conceptualised in November 2022 by Major General Philip Eromosele. The project, funded under the late Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, and completed under the current Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, includes over 600 residential flats, worship centres, sports facilities, and a secure perimeter fence.
Tinubu also performed a groundbreaking ceremony for a new Armed Forces Complex behind Lungi Barracks in Asokoro, signalling his administration’s resolve to invest in the nation’s security infrastructure. “The Federal Government is ready to provide everything our troops need to succeed,” Tinubu said during the ceremony.
The commissioning was attended by key dignitaries, including National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Minister of Defence Badaru Abubakar, and senior members of the legislature. Service chiefs, law enforcement heads, and other government officials were also present to witness the event, which marked another milestone in enhancing the welfare of Nigeria’s military personnel.
