President Bola Tinubu welcomed the All Progressive Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate, Monday Okpebholo, and his running mate, Hon Dennis Idahosa, along with the APC leader in Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, and the Minister of Niger Delta Development, Abubakar Momoh, among other dignitaries at the State House in Abuja. They provided him with an update on the party’s ongoing campaign activities.
Following the meeting, Oshiomhole spoke to State House Correspondents and expressed strong confidence in the ruling party’s prospects of winning the upcoming governorship election. He pointed to the internal crisis within the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state as a factor in their favor.
Oshiomhole refuted claims suggesting that the APC had instigated the crisis leading to the nullification of the PDP governorship primary. He clarified that the conflict was solely an internal matter within the PDP and had no involvement from the APC.
When asked about the purpose of their visit and the parties’ stance for the forthcoming election, the former Edo governor explained, “We met with the President to provide an update on our campaign activities, our strategies, and the increasing number of individuals joining our cause every day.”
Abubakar Momoh, the Minister of Niger Delta Development, echoed the APC’s optimism, highlighting that the party’s candidate, Okpebholo, has solid support in the Edo North and Central Senatorial Districts, with the South Senatorial District being the main area of contention.
Momoh emphasized the APC’s advantage over the PDP and Labour Party’s candidate, Olumide Akpata, in terms of grassroots support. He noted that Okpebholo’s candidacy is particularly strong in Edo North and Central Senatorial Districts due to his local connections and past electoral success, making him a preferred choice among the residents.
The Minister of Niger Delta Development also highlighted the importance of focusing on key issues affecting the state, such as infrastructure development, job creation, and security. He stressed the need for unity within the APC to ensure a successful campaign and victory in the upcoming election. Momoh expressed confidence that with Tinubu’s leadership and the collective efforts of the party members, the APC would emerge victorious in Edo State in 2024.
The APC’s campaign team is gearing up for the Edo 2024 election, with Tinubu at the forefront of leading the charge. With a united front and strong support in various senatorial districts, the party is optimistic about its chances of clinching victory. The focus remains on grassroots engagement, emphasizing key issues like infrastructure, job creation, and security to resonate with the voters. Unity within the party is seen as crucial for a successful campaign, and the collective efforts under Tinubu’s leadership are expected to pave the way for an APC triumph in Edo State in 2024.
