President Bola Tinubu has extended heartfelt condolences to the military and the families of six soldiers who were killed in a terrorist attack on January 4, 2025, at an army base in Sabon Gida, Damboa, Borno State. The soldiers lost their lives during a pre-dawn assault by members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), who launched the attack on trucks and motorcycles. He vowed that their bravery in defending the nation would never be forgotten. The President also called for a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack and ensure preventive measures are put in place to avoid similar incidents in the future.
Tinubu praised the resolute actions of the Nigerian Army, highlighting their readiness and capability in confronting and defeating security threats. He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to eradicating terrorism and banditry, calling the military’s continued efforts essential in securing a peaceful future for Nigeria. He also expressed gratitude on behalf of the nation to the military and security forces for their unwavering dedication.
The President further urged the military to take the fight directly to terrorist camps, particularly in the Northwest, where bandits and terrorists continue to disrupt lives and communities. He appealed for public support, urging Nigerians and the media to back the military’s efforts to restore peace and security to the nation.
