President Bola Tinubu has ordered an investigation into the Wike’s land allocation scandal following damning media reports this week.
The reports alleged that FCT Minister Nyesom Wike allocated 2,082 hectares of land in Maitama to his son.
According to an official source, Tinubu viewed the minister’s actions as suspicious and directed a swift and discreet probe.
The Wike’s land allocation scandal reportedly involves parcels in prime Abuja locations, raising concerns about corruption and abuse of office.
The investigation will be coordinated by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), officials confirmed.
An anonymous source said the president wants the facts before making any public declaration regarding the high-profile controversy.
“We encourage whistleblowers to come forward if they possess credible information on misconduct within the federal government,” the source said.
The Wike’s land allocation scandal has already sparked outrage among transparency advocates and civil society organisations nationwide.
Lanre Suraju, an anti-corruption activist, said the probe must be fully transparent to avoid repeating past failures.
“It’s important the panel reveals its full process, uses law enforcement, and includes forensic and registry analysis,” Suraju advised.
He noted previous probes failed due to “camaraderie and political solidarity in public office” and lack of investigative independence.
Another government insider added the president avoided a public announcement to reduce the appearance of political hostility toward Wike.
The Tinubu administration has positioned itself as anti-corruption, pledging zero tolerance for abuse of office regardless of political affiliations.
Many Nigerians are now watching closely to see if this probe marks a turning point in elite accountability under Tinubu.
