At the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and President Bola Tinubu met behind closed doors on Tuesday.
On April 23, he made news by leading Delta State’s PDP into the APC.
The governor had his first formal meeting with the president since his recent high-profile switch to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) after arriving at the State House at around 3:45 p.m.
Former Delta State House of Assembly Speaker Oborevwori was a prominent member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) prior to his defection. On April 23, he spearheaded a significant political change in the state, garnering media attention.
Following a strategic meeting in Asaba, Oborevwori publicly joined the APC alongside his predecessor, former PDP vice presidential candidate Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, and Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme.
Additionally, local government chairmen and members of the governor’s cabinet left the PDP, making Oborovwori the first Delta governor to do so since democracy was restored in 1999.
Along with 21 other House members, Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, also defected to the APC.
Months after rumours circulated that he would join the APC, he defected to the ruling party.
Some members of the state’s House of Representatives declared their intention to join the APC a few days after the governor and the PDP in the oil-rich state were formally accepted into the party.
Six of them confirmed switching from the PDP to the APC during Tuesday’s session.
