The Niger Delta Youth Council has issued a seven-day ultimatum to President Bola Tinubu, demanding immediate action to resolve the raging political impasse in Rivers State. The group threatened to shut down oil production across the region if their demands are not met.
The youths are calling for the restoration of Rivers State’s statutory revenue allocation, an end to impeachment plots against Governor Similaye Fubara, and a public retraction of anti-Ijaw remarks attributed to former Governor Nyesom Wike.
In an open letter to President Tinubu, the NDYC expressed concern over Wike’s comments, which they described as “provocative and inflammatory.” The group accused Wike of being used by the Presidency to sabotage the Niger Delta region.
The NDYC warned that failure to comply with their demands could lead to a total shutdown of oil production, which would have dire consequences for Nigeria’s economy. The group urged its members to mobilize and disrupt oil production across the Niger Delta region if their demands are not met.
