A former Ogun State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Jide Ojuko, has hailed President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms as bold and essential steps to revitalize Nigeria’s economy, despite the temporary hardships they impose.
Ojuko, who also serves as the president of Iganmode Club, made these remarks during a press briefing on Tuesday at the club’s headquarters in Ota, as part of activities to commemorate its 50th anniversary. He emphasised that Tinubu’s policies, particularly in liberalising the oil sector and promoting Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as a fuel alternative, are already showing signs of success.
While acknowledging the challenges Nigerians face, such as increased transportation costs due to the removal of fuel subsidies, Ojuko expressed optimism that Tinubu’s reforms would yield long-term benefits. He highlighted the ongoing implementation of CNG initiatives and the rehabilitation of refineries like Warri as positive developments, predicting that these efforts would significantly lower petrol prices and ease economic burdens.
“These reforms are bold and necessary for the greater good of all Nigerians. The signs of progress are evident, and with patience and prayers, the country will reap the rewards of these courageous policies,” Ojuko remarked.
In addition to discussing national issues, Ojuko unveiled plans for Iganmode Club’s golden jubilee celebrations, which aim to raise N500 million for a multipurpose building in honour of the club’s founding fathers. The events, culminating on Saturday, January 18, will feature a public lecture on developing Ota into a metropolitan city, charity visits, a royal homage to the Olota of Ota, and free medical services for 1,000 residents.
Dignitaries expected at the anniversary celebrations include Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Bishop David Oyedepo, and Senator Solomon Adeola. Ojuko reaffirmed the club’s commitment to community development, citing past initiatives like scholarships, school building donations, and the provision of boreholes to enhance socio-economic growth in Ota.
