The Lagos State Government announced on Friday that the popular Eko Bridge will be closed to allow for emergency repairs by the Federal Ministry of Works.
According to the announcement, traffic will be diverted from Eko Bridge starting Monday, September 16, 2024, for a period of eight weeks.
In a statement released by the Lagos Ministry of Transportation, it was clarified that the repairs will take place in four phases. During this time, the bridge will be either fully or partially closed, depending on the progress of the work.
“Drivers are encouraged to use the following alternative routes during the repair period:
“Motorists traveling to the Island from Funsho Williams Avenue can use the service lane at Alaka to connect to Costain and access Eko Bridge to continue their journey.
“Alternatively, motorists can use Costain to connect to Eko Bridge and link up with Apongbon to reach their destinations.
“Drivers can also connect to Apongbon via Eko Bridge to reach Costain and access Funsho Williams Avenue,” the government advised.
The statement further explained that drivers can use Costain to head towards Alaka/Funsho Williams Avenue or opt to go through Apapa Road from Costain, linking Oyingbo to access Adekunle and the Third Mainland Bridge.
“In the same manner, motorists traveling to Surulere are advised to use Costain to link Breweries towards Abebe Village and connect to Eric Moore/Bode Thomas to reach their destinations,” the statement continued.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, assured the public that officers from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be stationed in the affected areas and on alternative routes to reduce travel delays and inconvenience.
