A domestic dispute in Bauchi State took a tragic turn as a 25-year-old woman, Salamatu Danjuma, allegedly stabbed her husband to death during an argument over the custody of her six-year-old daughter from a previous relationship. The Bauchi State Police Command confirmed the arrest of the suspect, stating that the incident occurred in Nadabo village, Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area.
According to the police spokesperson, SP Wakil Mohammed, the couple had initially agreed to raise the child together. However, tensions arose when the husband later reneged on the agreement, leading to a heated confrontation. The dispute escalated when Salamatu, in a fit of rage, allegedly grabbed a knife from their bedroom and fatally stabbed her husband.
Neighbors alerted the police following the violent altercation, prompting a swift response from officers of the Bununu Police Division. Upon arrival, they found the victim critically injured and immediately transported him to Cottage Hospital, Bununu. Unfortunately, doctors pronounced him dead on arrival, confirming the severity of his wounds.
In reaction to the incident, the Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Mohammed, ordered a thorough investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID). The police assured the public that justice would be served and urged residents to seek peaceful means of resolving domestic conflicts.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue. Authorities are expected to determine whether she acted in self-defense or if there were underlying issues that contributed to the fatal confrontation. Meanwhile, the tragic event has sparked conversations about domestic disputes and the need for conflict resolution mechanisms in families.
