US President Donald Trump intensified pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday, urging him to make a peace deal to end the ongoing war in Ukraine. In a post on Truth Social, Trump warned of imminent tougher sanctions, taxes, and tariffs on Russian exports if Moscow fails to comply.
“If we don’t make a ‘deal,’ and soon, I have no other choice but to put high levels of Taxes, Tariffs, and Sanctions on anything being sold by Russia to the United States, and various other participating countries,” Trump stated.
The Republican leader, who has promised to resolve the conflict swiftly if re-elected, emphasized that his call for peace is in both nations’ best interests. While maintaining that he has “always had a very good relationship” with Putin, Trump made it clear that the war’s continuation would lead to deeper economic woes for Russia.
“I’m going to do Russia, whose Economy is failing, and President Putin, a very big FAVOR. Settle now, and STOP this ridiculous War! IT’S ONLY GOING TO GET WORSE,” Trump added, signaling the urgency of negotiations.
Trump also mentioned his belief that the war would not have occurred under his first presidency. He concluded with a stark choice for Moscow: “We can do it the easy way, or the hard way – and the easy way is always better. It’s time to ‘MAKE A DEAL.’”
