Cristiano Ronaldo, a figure emblematic of excellence in European football, is poised to receive a distinguished accolade from UEFA, further cementing his position as the all-time leading scorer in the UEFA Champions League.

This esteemed award will be conferred by UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin during the draw ceremony for the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League, scheduled for Thursday, 29 August, at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.

As stated on the UEFA website on Tuesday, Ronaldo’s extraordinary accomplishments in the UEFA Champions League, which include an impressive tally of 140 goals in 183 matches, have significantly altered the landscape of the competition’s history.

Being the sole player to have netted goals in three different finals and a five-time champion, this recognition underscores his lasting impact and establishes a formidable standard for future footballers to aspire to.

This information was conveyed in a release titled “Cristiano Ronaldo to be Honoured as UEFA Champions League All-Time Top Scorer.” “Cristiano Ronaldo, recognized as the leading goal-scorer in the UEFA Champions League, will receive a special award from UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin in acknowledgment of his extraordinary contributions to the most prestigious tournament in football.

“Ronaldo’s remarkable feats in Europe’s elite club competition, achieved over a span of more than 18 years, will be celebrated during the inaugural draw ceremony for the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League 36-team league phase, taking place on Thursday, 29 August, at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco,” the statement indicated.

Cristiano Ronaldo who has played for Sporting Clube de Portugal, Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus has amassed 140 goals in the Champions League across 183 appearances.

He holds an 11-goal advantage over Lionel Messi and is 46 goals ahead of third-placed Robert Lewandowski in the scoring rankings.
“Cristiano Ronaldo shines as one of the most prominent figures in the UEFA Champions League. His remarkable goal-scoring feats in the tournament will likely endure through time, presenting a significant challenge for future generations to overcome.”

His consistent excellence at the pinnacle of the sport exemplifies his unwavering commitment to achieving both team and individual accolades. Over twenty years, he has adeptly adapted and enhanced his skills while maintaining a youthful enthusiasm for scoring and celebrating goals.

“His professionalism, work ethic, dedication, and ability to excel on the most significant stages are attributes that footballers worldwide should strive to replicate,” remarked UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin. Ronaldo has concluded seven distinct Champions League seasons as the top scorer, surpassing all other players.

This achievement ranges from his eight goals during Manchester United’s victorious 2007/08 season to his remarkable 15-goal tally when Real Madrid secured their third consecutive title in 2017/18, as noted in the statement.

He also holds the record for the highest number of goals in a single Champions League season, having scored 17 times in 2013/14, which included a decisive goal in the extra-time victory against Atlético Madrid in the final.

The forward from Portugal has triumphed in the competition once with Manchester United and four times with Real Madrid, making him the first player to win the title five times since the competition’s inception in 1992. He is also the only player to have scored in three different UEFA Champions League finals (2008, 2014, 2017).

Additionally, he holds the record for the longest scoring streak in Champions League history, having found the net in 11 consecutive matches from June 2017 to April 2018. Ronaldo has also achieved an impressive total of eight hat-tricks in the Champions League.
