Following a mild tension that ensued at the palace of the Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, during an interview on a local radio station, has made claims pointing accusing fingers at the Federal Government.
The incident, which took many by surprise, saw the police sealing off the entrance to the emir’s palace in Kano City, preventing planned activities.
Many were caught off guard when the police in Kano City blocked the entry to the emir’s palace, halting scheduled events. Bichi was shocked by the event and said it was a calculated attempt to sow discord in the tranquil state.
“We were really surprised waking up to this development with police sealing off the entrance to the palace of Kano Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II,” Bichi said.
He further claimed that the Federal Government gave the order to barricade the palace. “What surprises us the most is that Kano is peaceful, but it’s just a few people that have the backing of Abuja that don’t want Kano to be peaceful,” he added.
According to Bichi, the Emir had planned to escort his newly appointed district head of Bichi, Wamban Kano, to his district for prayers and ceremonial activities. “We were all invited, and then we woke up to this,” he said.
When asked about the reason for the barricade, Bichi stated, “We asked the reason, and they told us it was an order given to them from above. Who is there above? It’s the federal government.”
The Kano State Government promised to maintain calm in the state and carry out the scheduled activities despite the disturbance. Bichi reaffirmed, “We i
n Kano have decided to remain peaceful; peace will reign, and nobody will come to Kano and destabilise that.”
He further underlined that the district head’s appointment by the Emir is still in place. “The district head was chosen by the emir, and that appointment is still in effect. He will take him to his location, and we will accompany him there whenever he is ready to go—no turning back,” he said.
