The Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has expressed strong disapproval over the reported expulsion of Osun natives from Lagos State.
It was alleged that the Lagos State Government executed the expulsion of Osun natives from the state.
According to the report, law enforcement officers apprehended them from various locations in Ajah, TBS, and Lagos Island.
In response to the situation, Obi, through an official statement on his verified social media account, characterized the reported expulsion as a “violation of the rights of citizens.”

Obi articulated, “I am profoundly saddened and taken aback by the recent reports of the expulsion of citizens, primarily of Osun State descent, by the authorities in Lagos State.
“This is not only a matter concerning Osun State but also resonates with all Nigerians who value the principles of unity, equity, and justice.
“I perceive this action as highly objectionable due to its extensive implications on our national unity and progress. As an advocate for all Nigerians, I vehemently oppose any sort of bias, injustice, or infringement of the rights of our citizens.
“Every Nigerian, regardless of their state of origin or place of residence, is entitled to be treated with honor and regard. Let us always bear in mind that we are all Nigerians, bound together by a shared destiny.

“It is our joint responsibility to uphold the ideals of unity, equity, and justice, and to resist any form of bias or injustice. Our constitution guarantees every Nigerian citizen the right to live and earn a living in any part of the federation.
“I urge all Nigerians to remain composed and watchful as we anticipate the results of the investigation. Meanwhile, security forces in Osun State are closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safety and welfare of the deported individuals.
“Let us work together towards a Nigeria where every citizen is treated with dignity and respect, irrespective of their heritage or place of origin or residence. A transformed Nigeria is indeed attainable! Let us strive towards it in harmony,” he concluded.
