Vice President Kashim Shettima has officially left Dubai for Saudi Arabia after his successful representation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the commissioning of a $315 million oil production and storage facility owned by Oriental Energy Limited (OERL). The event, which took place in Dubai, marked a significant milestone in Nigeria’s energy sector, showcasing international partnerships and advancements. Shettima’s trip follows his important diplomatic role and signals further collaborations between Nigeria and global investors in the energy industry.
Shettima was seen off at the Dubai airport by prominent figures, including the Executive Chairman of OERL, Alhaji Muhammadu Indimi, and the company’s Executive Vice Chairman, Engr. Goni M. Sheikh. Their presence underscored the significance of the event and Shettima’s diplomatic mission. The Vice President’s travels are seen as a strategic move to further strengthen Nigeria’s global ties, particularly in the energy sector, and open doors for more investments.
Following the Dubai event, Shettima will embark on a spiritual journey to Saudi Arabia, where he is scheduled to perform the Lesser Hajj (Umrah) in the holy cities of Madinah and Makkah. Accompanied by the Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Zulum, Shettima will spend several days from December 16 to 19, 2024, in these sacred locations for prayers and reflection.
The Vice President’s visit to Saudi Arabia also includes a crucial diplomatic engagement. On December 20, 2024, Shettima is set to meet with the President of the Islamic Development Bank in Jeddah. The bilateral meeting will focus on strengthening partnerships for the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ Phase II) project and enhancing coordination of IsDB projects in Nigeria to support the country’s agricultural and economic growth.
