The principal of Baptist High Port Harcourt, Mr.Opuene Albert Dede has reiterated that the ongoing renovation in the school premises will boost academics, sports and skills
He further debunked the allegation levelled against the management of the School by the leadership of its Old Students Association, that the authority want to convert the football pitch to softball/Baseball pitch.
Mr. Albert Dede said this while reacting to the allegation, on Monday in his office, Port Harcourt.
He said the allegation was unfounded, misleading and not true in all ramifications, that there are no reasons why the school management will do without a leading sport like football.
He explained that the school authority is currently carrying out a total renovation including the football pitch, that can also accommodate other sports.
” It is not true that we want to convert the football pitch to softball/Baseball pitch that is misleading and unfounded, rather on the same pitch we want to have multiple sports like; football, cricket and softball/Basketball.
“The association accusing the school authority that they gave the contract to my brother is also not true because I am a board member of Softball/ Baseball Federation, what the school is doing was to ensure that no one sport dominate another.
” As a school we have the policy to marry academics, sports and skills. We have discussed with owners of the school Baptist conference to upgrade our sports facilities to attract people living within the neighborhood.
“If you look at the field there is serious work going on the football pitch. You can see that they are re-grassing it” Opuene said.
In his reaction, the National President of Baptist High School of Port Harcourt Old Students Association, Mr. Omubo Whyte said the association is not against any renovation going on in the premises.
According to him, the renovation work is been attracted by a Old boy from I993 Set working with Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas Limited (NLNG), adding that there will be no reason they will go against such a laudable project.
“I want to say here that we are happy with the project but we are not with the Baptist Conference that want to convert our football pitch to Baseball and Softball pitch.
” The association is totally against it and will not accept such a project carried out there”, Mr Whyte said.
