The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has disclosed that upon assuming office, his administration was faced with the challenge of overseeing 34 unfinished projects valued at a total of N225.279 billion, scattered across 13 local government areas within the State.
In addition, the governor announced that under his leadership, the Rivers State Government has approved nine new road projects, with a total value of N534.332 billion.
Despite encountering a severe political crisis just three months after taking office on May 29, 2023, Governor Fubara expressed relief that his administration has successfully navigated through the turbulent period. He emphasized that his government has vigorously defended its rights and privileges to govern the State, ensuring its continued progress in freedom and liberty without any compromise.

During the presentation of his Stewardship Account and Scorecard to commemorate the one-year anniversary of his administration at the Dr. Obi Wali International Conference Centre in Port Harcourt, the governor shared his sentiments: “Our journey began with great enthusiasm and determination to bring about the change we had promised swiftly. However, we encountered unexpected turmoil that plunged us into a severe crisis mere months into our tenure. This was not just an ordinary political crisis; it was a profound existential challenge. Fortunately, we have weathered the storm, safeguarding our authority to lead the State and propel its development unhindered by external pressures.”
Governor Fubara reflected on the progress made in various sectors, reiterating his commitment to prioritizing the interests of Rivers State and ensuring that the dividends of democracy and good governance are delivered to the people. He emphasized the importance of accountability, responsiveness, and responsibility in governance, highlighting the government’s efforts to enhance security and well-being for all citizens.

Furthermore, Governor Fubara outlined the significant achievements made during his first year in office, particularly in revitalizing the State’s economy and infrastructure. He noted the successful completion of 12 out of the 34 inherited projects, with construction ongoing on the remaining projects. Additionally, nine new road projects have been initiated by his administration, reflecting a total investment of N534.332 billion.
Governor Fubara emphasized the importance of sustainable development through infrastructure, underscoring the government’s commitment to completing ambitious projects aimed at transforming the State. Projects such as the Port Harcourt Ring Road, Elele-Egbeda-Omoku Road, and Trans-Kalabari Road are being funded through a combination of internally generated revenue and federal allocation savings.

In the health sector, Governor Fubara highlighted the reactivation of the Rivers State Emergency Ambulance Service, upgrades to healthcare facilities, employment of medical personnel, and empowerment of primary healthcare centers. He also stressed the administration’s focus on economic diversification through agriculture, with efforts underway to attract investors to revitalize state-owned farms and agricultural assets.
Addressing the education sector, Governor Fubara discussed the completion of several secondary school reconstruction projects initiated by his administration. He detailed the financial commitments made to finalize these projects, emphasizing the government’s dedication to enhancing educational infrastructure and quality.
Governor Fubara concluded by reiterating his administration’s dedication to transparency and accountability, ensuring that public funds are utilized judiciously to deliver critical projects and services to the people of Rivers State. He expressed gratitude for the support and trust of the citizens and pledged to uphold the highest standards of governance moving forward.
