The long-running Wike-Fubara political rift may have finally ended following a peace meeting in Abuja Thursday night.
President Bola Tinubu brokered the closed-door meeting at the Presidential Villa, where both political camps agreed to end hostilities.
Minister Nyesom Wike confirmed that they reached a consensus to work together as one political family for the state’s benefit.
Wike said, “We’ve agreed to work with the governor, and he has agreed to work with everyone on our side.”
He acknowledged that disagreements are natural in politics but emphasized the importance of knowing when to reconcile and move forward.
According to Wike, “There’s no more acrimony; everything is over, and we’ve reported our agreement to Mr. President tonight.”
The Wike-Fubara political rift began shortly after Siminalayi Fubara assumed office in May 2023 as Rivers State governor.
Tensions escalated when impeachment attempts were launched by pro-Wike lawmakers, followed by a controversial Assembly complex demolition.
Fubara, suspended from executive duties in March 2025, expressed relief and gratitude for the truce brokered by President Tinubu.
The governor stated, “Tonight is important for Rivers; peace has returned, and I’ll do everything to preserve it going forward.”
Fubara also praised President Tinubu’s intervention and called on political actors to prioritize unity and progress above personal interest.
He added, “By God’s grace and collective effort, we’ll restore peace and focus on developing every corner of Rivers State.”
The fragile agreement could mark the end of the Wike and Fubara political rift if all parties commit to reconciliation. become of the constitution of the Federal Republic.
President Tinubu then installed a sole administrator, former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (retd.).
