Wike Vows Not to Interfere with Rivers Assembly’s Constitutional Duties

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reiterated his commitment to not interfering with the constitutional duties of the Rivers State House of Assembly. Wike made this statement during a civic reception and thanksgiving ceremony held in his honor at Abalama Town.

The minister attributed the ongoing crisis in Rivers State to the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, who he accused of instigating the conflict. Wike claimed that Danagogo’s actions were motivated by his own failed gubernatorial ambitions.

Nyesom emphasized that he would not stop the Rivers Assembly from performing its constitutional duties, despite the ongoing crisis. He noted that the assembly members had suffered greatly, with their salaries and allowances seized for over a year.

The minister recalled how President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had intervened in the crisis, inviting all parties to a peace meeting. However, Wike alleged that those around Governor Siminalayi Fubara had prevented him from implementing the decisions reached at the meeting.

Nyesom accused Fubara’s team of being ungrateful and lacking conscience. He noted that those who had written petitions against Fubara’s governorship were now benefiting from his administration.

The minister expressed his support for President Tinubu’s reelection bid, stating that he would not abandon those who had helped him. Wike also acknowledged the role of the Kalabari people in his political journey, promising to continue working for their interests.

Chairman of the occasion, Chief Ferdinand Alabraba, praised Wike for his political sagacity and his commitment to the Ijaw people. Alabraba noted that Wike had resolved the political crisis in Rivers by taking the dispute to the Supreme Court.
