There are indications based on credible reports that former Barcelona midfielder and manager, Xavi Hernandez wants to replace Ruben Amorim as Manchester United manager.
According to the BBC, the Spaniard is keen on replacing the Portuguese who is under intense pressure to save his job.
United have started the 2025-26 season disappointingly, with just two wins in their first seven games.
The Red Devils were thoroughly beaten by Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday and are 14th in the table.
Before the game against Brentford, many fans, pundits and sports enthusiasts expected Amorim to win his first ever back-to-back games since replacing Erik ten Hag last November 2024.
A significant section of the club’s supporters want Amorim sacked.
There are stories that Manchester United have drawn up a shortlist of possible replacements for the former Sporting manager as they consider sacking him.
However, BBC Sport says the Man United board remain ‘supportive’ of the Portuguese.
According to the report, the board believe the manager deserves a full season to prove himself.
United board, according to BBC, has also dismissed rumours that the club have identified replacements.
However, the club being supportive of Amorim, will do little to quell speculation that he is fighting a lost battle.
Xavi would reportedly jump at the offer to take the reins.
Football transfer journalist, Fabrizio Romano, reports that Xavi has been ‘studying’ the Premier League and would ‘immediately’ take the Manchester United job if it was offered.
He added that not even the lack of European football would not deter Xavi.
Up next for Amorim is a home game against Sunderland and the Portuguese will be desperate to lead Manchester United to a much-desired victory.
