Abdulaziz Yar’Adua, Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum, has called on Northern leaders to focus on safeguarding children’s safety and enhancing access to education. His appeal follows the recent release of minors detained during the #EndBadGovernance protests. In a statement on Monday, Yar’Adua applauded President Bola Tinubu for his swift directive to release these children, emphasizing that this action upholds the rights and well-being of Nigeria’s youth.
Yar’Adua highlighted the President’s compassionate leadership, noting that Tinubu had directed Attorney-General Lateef Fagbemi to expedite the minors’ release in response to widespread public concern. This intervention, he stated, reflects a commitment to youth protection and the importance of timely government response.
He also commended Northern leaders for their advocacy, which helped draw attention to the plight of these detained minors. “I would like to recognize the efforts of leaders in the North who have tirelessly championed the cause of these children,” he said, acknowledging their role in bringing the issue into the national spotlight.
Yar’Adua urged Northern leaders to focus on creating a safe, nurturing environment for children, stressing the importance of addressing underlying issues like hunger, lack of access to quality education, and security concerns. He encouraged a collaborative approach to provide youth with the resources needed for growth and stability.
