In a remarkable gesture to support civil servants, the Zamfara State government has announced the payment of a 13th-month salary for all civil and public servants. The initiative, aimed at boosting morale and offering additional financial support during the festive season, was confirmed in a circular issued by the Head of Service on December 28, 2024. This marks the second consecutive year that Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration has implemented this bonus, signaling a commitment to enhancing worker welfare.
The 13th-month salary payment includes a bonus equivalent to 30% of the basic salary of each worker, including retirees. According to Sulaiman Bala Idris, the Governor’s spokesman, this initiative recognizes the dedication of Zamfara’s workforce. “The payment not only shows appreciation for workers’ hard work but also reflects the government’s focus on fostering economic growth within the state,” Idris said in a statement on Monday.
Beyond this bonus, Governor Lawal’s administration has implemented several worker-friendly policies. Over N10 billion in unpaid gratuities from the past 11 years have been cleared, and a new minimum wage of N70,000 has been approved. Additionally, the administration has consistently ensured the prompt payment of workers’ salaries, further bolstering confidence in the government’s policies.
The initiative has been widely praised by stakeholders and citizens alike, highlighting the government’s proactive approach to addressing the financial challenges faced by workers. Many believe that such measures will not only uplift workers but also stimulate economic activities within Zamfara State, particularly during the holiday season.
