Kenneth Okonkwo, a former spokesperson for the Labour Party (LP) presidential campaign, has called for President Bola Tinubu, former PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi to step aside from the 2027 elections. Okonkwo argues that these leaders are not suitable for future elections due to their perceived failures in addressing Nigerians’ needs.
In a recent interview, Kenneth Okonkwo, who is also a well-known Nollywood actor, expressed strong criticism of both the ruling party and the opposition. He pointed out that despite having more opposition members in the House of Representatives than members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the opposition has struggled to effectively challenge the current administration.
Okonkwo stated, “I completely agree that we need new faces in our leadership, and that’s why I believe Atiku, Peter Obi, and Tinubu should step aside for the next election. The current administration has not delivered on its promises, and the opposition parties have also failed to present a strong alternative.”
He criticized the opposition for failing to unite and form a cohesive strategy against the ruling party. “Instead of focusing on the next election immediately after the last one, the opposition should concentrate on consolidating their efforts and forming alliances. If all the opposition members in the House of Representatives had worked together, they could have elected their own speaker and vice speaker, presenting a stronger challenge to the ruling party.”
Okonkwo’s comments reflect a broader sentiment among some political analysts and observers who feel that Nigeria’s political landscape needs fresh leadership and a more effective opposition. He believes that the inability of current leaders to address key issues has led to widespread dissatisfaction among the electorate.
The call for new leadership comes at a time when many Nigerians are seeking significant changes in the political system. There is a growing demand for leaders who can effectively address pressing issues such as economic development, security, and governance. Okonkwo’s remarks highlight the need for political reform and a shift towards more innovative and responsive leadership.
