Supporters of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), have initiated mobilization efforts and established a harmonization committee in preparation for the 2027 elections. In a statement released by Joseph Enan Maigari, Chairman of the Obidient Harmonization Committee (OHC), it was announced that the structure of the Obidient Harmonization Team has garnered widespread acceptance nationwide, and the selected volunteers have committed to supporting the former Anambra State governor.
“We are all cognizant of the weighty responsibility bestowed upon us, the outcome of which will have profound and extensive implications for our nation in the years to come.
“It is a formidable task. It is imperative to always keep in mind the fundamental objective that has brought us together – the Advancement of Peace, Unity, Reconciliation, Harmonization, and grassroots mobilization.
“At the core of our mission within the Team is facilitating genuine, authentic, and not superficial and deceitful reconciliation for our nation and its people.
“Some individuals harbor skepticism, suspicion, and even animosity towards the team convinced that it will devolve into pursuing personal agendas rather than promoting collective interests, with the assumption being that it will be miscreants from a single faction only.”
Maigari emphasized that the group is intended to contribute to the healing process for its members, Nigerians, the party, and the nation as a whole.
“We are a nation scarred by the failures of past and present leadership, regardless of our affiliations. We are all in need of healing. We, as members of the team, are not infallible.
“We, too, require forgiveness and must forgive ourselves to confront the oppressors who have held our country captive since 1960,” he remarked.
He expressed optimism that committee members nationwide will exhibit exemplary leadership as they progress toward the 2027 Presidential election.
“We are honored to be part of this team, aiding our nation and our people in reconciling with our tumultuous past once and for all. It is said that those who suffer from amnesia, those who forget the past, are destined to relive it.
“It is not sufficient to dismiss the past with a mere ‘let bygones be bygones,’ for then they will not truly be bygones.
“Our country, our society, would be condemned to the instability of uncertainty – the uncertainty bred by not knowing when another scandal from the past will surface when another skeleton will emerge from the closet.
“We are embarking on what should be a collective nationwide journey of healing through contrition and forgiveness. To forgive, one must understand whom they are forgiving and why. This is why truth is paramount to this entire endeavor.
“However, we are also partaking in something profoundly spiritual, deeply personal. This is why I implore all our people – this is not an endeavor solely for the committee or team. We are all in this together, Muslims and Christians, Northerners and Southerners, we are this diverse people of God.
“That is why I urge our various faith communities (Christian, Muslim) to support the Committee through fervent prayer and intercession for the divine blessings of wisdom, courage, and discernment.
“We have witnessed a remarkable transformation unfold before our eyes, and the world has marveled at the Obidients, all Obidients, and how they made a statement in the most contentious elections in our nation’s history.
“The end of tyranny and corruption in Nigerian leadership is within reach, and we hope to unite under a shared vision and purpose to forge a new Nigeria.
“This miracle must endure. Freedom and justice must become tangible realities for all our people, and we are privileged to contribute to healing the wounds of the past, transcending past alienations and hostilities so that we may close the chapter on that era and focus on the present and our promising future,” Maigari concluded.
