Governor Mutfwang Dissolves Local Government Transition Committee in Plateau State

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has officially dissolved the Local Government Transition Implementation Committee that was overseeing the administration of the state’s 17 local government areas. This decision marks a significant shift in local governance and was communicated in a statement issued on Saturday by the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere.

In the wake of this dissolution, Governor Mutfwang has directed that the Directors of Personnel Management (DPMs) take over the management responsibilities of the local councils. This interim arrangement is intended to ensure that local governance continues smoothly and effectively until new elections are conducted. The elections are scheduled to take place on October 9, 2024.

The interim period will provide a transition phase where the DPMs will oversee daily operations and address any immediate administrative needs.
Governor Mutfwang’s decision comes as part of his broader efforts to ensure that local governance remains responsive to the needs of the people while preparing for a democratic transition.

In his statement, the governor acknowledged and commended the efforts of the outgoing transition committee chairmen. He praised their exemplary leadership and the dedication they demonstrated in advancing various developmental projects throughout their tenure. These projects have had a positive impact on their respective communities, contributing to local infrastructure and services.

The governor expressed satisfaction with the achievements of the transition committee chairmen and emphasized that their work had been crucial in maintaining stability and fostering development in the local government areas. He encouraged them to continue providing valuable guidance and support, particularly in promoting peace and unity within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and across Plateau State.

In addition to acknowledging their past efforts, Governor Mutfwang urged the outgoing committee chairmen to actively engage with their communities as the state approaches the upcoming local government elections. Their collaboration with constituents is seen as vital for ensuring the PDP’s success in these elections and for securing a smooth transition to newly elected officials.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to running a government that is inclusive, transparent, and accountable. He assured Plateau State residents that his administration is dedicated to serving the interests of all citizens and addressing their needs effectively.

The transition committee was initially established in June 2023 following Governor Mutfwang’s decision to dissolve the previously elected local government council officials. This move was aimed at streamlining governance and ensuring that local government functions were managed effectively during the transitional period.

As Plateau State prepares for the upcoming elections, the governor’s actions reflect a broader commitment to democratic processes and good governance, ensuring that local administrations are well-prepared to serve the people efficiently once new officials are elected.
