Abuja, Nigeria – The House of Representatives has directed the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to remit N3.602 billion to the Federal Government Consolidated Revenue Fund (CRF) within 30 days.
The order was given by Rep. Bamidele Salam, Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, during an investigative hearing in Abuja. The remittance was demanded by the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC), which had dragged JAMB before the committee over an unremitted operating surplus.
According to the FRC, JAMB’s liabilities as of 2022 amount to N3.602 billion, which the board has failed to remit despite repeated notifications. JAMB’s Director of Finance and Administration, Mr. Mufutau Bello, argued that the difference in remittances figure was due to FRC’s demand for a 50% remittance, whereas JAMB had been operating on a 25% concession granted by the Office of the Accountant-General.
However, the committee unanimously ordered JAMB to pay the sum to FRC and provide evidence of the remittance within 30 days, citing that the remittance was a matter of law or regulation and not subject to personal interpretation.
