FCT Minister Honors Security Chiefs on their Promotion, Service to the Country

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has recently praised Benneth Igweh, the former FCT Commissioner of Police, and Assistant Director General Ado Mu’azu, the former Director of the Department of State Security Services (DSS) FCT Command, for their exemplary service during their tenure in the nation’s capital.

On August 14, 2024, Barr. Wike hosted a reception in their honor at his official residence in Life Camp, Abuja. During the event, he emphasized that the recent promotions of both security officials were a testament to their hard work and dedication to their roles. Wike expressed deep appreciation for their significant contributions to the safety and security of the FCT.

The FCT Minister acknowledged Igweh’s crucial role in enhancing public safety and maintaining order in the capital. He remarked on the importance of recognizing individuals for their efforts while they are still alive, rather than waiting until after their passing. Wike also highlighted that this reception was a way to celebrate their achievements and thank them personally for their service.

Wike spoke highly of Igweh, noting his relentless dedication in combating crime and ensuring the safety of residents. He praised Igweh for his ability to address complex security challenges and maintain stability within the FCT. The Minister also expressed relief that despite Igweh’s promotion to Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) for Zone 7, which covers the FCT, Kaduna, and Niger States, he would still play a significant role in overseeing security in Abuja.
Regarding ADG Mu’azu, Wike commended his quiet yet effective approach to his responsibilities. He thanked the new Director General of the DSS for recognizing Mu’azu’s qualities and promoting him to a national role, where his expertise will continue to benefit the country.

Wike expressed gratitude to the Inspector General of Police for appointing Igweh as AIG, recognizing his extensive knowledge of the FCT’s security landscape. The Minister had initially been concerned about losing Igweh’s services but was reassured that his oversight would continue to be valuable in Abuja.
In his address, the former Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, thanked the Minister for his support throughout his tenure and for organizing the reception. Igweh reaffirmed his commitment to the safety of the FCT as he takes on his new role as AIG for Zone 7. He assured residents that, with his increased authority, he would continue to be actively involved in combating crime and ensuring security.
Igweh used the opportunity to send a stern warning to criminal elements in the FCT, emphasizing that his enhanced powers as AIG would allow him to tackle crime more effectively. He urged those involved in criminal activities to reconsider their actions, as he is now in a position to more closely supervise and address security issues in Abuja.
Overall, the Minister concluded the event by urging all security personnel to remain dedicated to their duties and to continue working together to protect the lives and property of FCT residents. He also thanked other security agencies for their cooperative efforts in maintaining the safety and security of the FCT.
