Former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has recently honored the invitation of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to address various issues raised during his time in office. This meeting marks a significant step in his ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability.

A statement from his media team confirmed that he attended the EFCC meeting. According to the statement, “Former Governor Yahaya Bello respects the law and wanted to protect his rights while ensuring due process.” This highlights his belief in following legal protocols while engaging with the EFCC, reinforcing the idea that he is ready to confront any allegations against him.

The statement further noted that his case has been in court, where he has consistently been represented by a qualified legal team at every hearing. The former governor emphasized the importance of this meeting, stating that it was essential for him to engage with the EFCC to clear his name. He expressed confidence in his integrity, asserting that he has nothing to hide and nothing to fear regarding the allegations made against him.

In addition to addressing these issues, Bello has publicly voiced his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to enhance Nigeria’s economic development and combat corruption. He believes that the current administration is on the right path to achieving sustainable growth for the country. His support for these initiatives reflects his commitment to good governance and the belief that corruption must be tackled at all levels of government.

It is noteworthy that during his tenure as governor, Yahaya Bello was the first in Kogi State to implement measures aimed at fighting corruption. He established an anti-corruption framework designed to ensure that state resources were utilized effectively for the benefit of the people. This initiative demonstrated his dedication to improving governance and accountability within the state.

Bello attended the EFCC meeting accompanied by several prominent Nigerians, signaling his intention to face the inquiry with solidarity and support from influential figures. The presence of these individuals underscores the importance of this meeting not only for him but also for the broader context of governance in Nigeria.

The statement issued by his media office expressed hope that the EFCC would handle the investigation with professionalism and respect his fundamental rights as a citizen of Nigeria. This expectation reflects a broader call for integrity and fairness in how anti-corruption agencies operate.

As the situation unfolds, further details about his engagement with the EFCC operatives will be shared later. The public is keen to learn more about the outcome of this meeting and how it may influence the ongoing fight against corruption in Nigeria.
