Members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Jaba Local Government Area of Kaduna State have elected a new chairman. Sebastian David was chosen as the new chairman during a congress held on Thursday, marking an important step for the party in the region.
The election took place in Kwoi, the headquarters of Jaba LGA, where David was elected alongside 19 other executives. He received a total of 186 votes from 10 different wards, significantly outpacing his closest competitor, Joseph Makkada, who garnered just 29 votes. The election was closely watched, as it represented the party’s efforts to solidify leadership and direction within the local government area.
While there were initially six candidates vying for the chairman position, four of them withdrew before the voting commenced, simplifying the election process. This allowed party members to focus on the remaining candidates without unnecessary complications. In addition to David, most of the other 19 executive positions were filled unopposed, indicating a strong level of support for the new leadership team.
Timmy Kambai, the committee chairman for the congress, expressed his appreciation for the smooth conduct of the election. “I commend all party members for their participation and for ensuring that the election was free and fair,” he said. His remarks reflect the importance of democratic processes within the party, emphasizing the need for unity and cooperation among members.
Kambai also urged the newly elected chairman and executives to prioritize the interests of the people and the party as they begin their new roles. He stressed that the success of the PDP in Jaba will depend on their ability to listen to the concerns of the community and work collaboratively to address them. “Your leadership is not just about holding positions; it’s about serving the people and making a positive impact in their lives,” he noted.
Sebastian David, the new chairman, acknowledged the trust placed in him and his team by the party members. In his acceptance speech, he promised to work diligently to fulfill the expectations of the electorate and to foster unity within the party. “I am grateful for the support, and I assure you that I will do my best to lead the PDP in Jaba with integrity and dedication,” he stated.
As the PDP prepares for upcoming elections and the challenges that lie ahead, the election of Sebastian David is seen as a crucial development. It represents a commitment to strengthening the party’s presence in Jaba LGA and working towards greater political engagement and representation for the people.
