Sir Alex Ferguson, the legendary former manager of Manchester United, recently opened up about his feelings after stepping down from his role. At 82 years old, he has reflected on his long and successful career, admitting that he sometimes misses the excitement and challenges of being a football manager.

Ferguson retired after the 2012/2013 season, having led Manchester United to their 13th Premier League title, marking an impressive 27 years at the club.

Ferguson’s tenure at United was marked by numerous achievements, including 13 league titles, two UEFA Champions League trophies, and countless other honors. He became known for his ability to build strong teams and adapt to changing circumstances, earning him a place in football history.

Since his departure, however, Manchester United has faced difficulties, struggling to replicate the success they enjoyed under his leadership. In recent years, Manchester City has emerged as a dominant force in English football, winning multiple titles and often overshadowing United.

In a recent interview, Ferguson reflected on his post-retirement life. He mentioned attending a European final during his first year after retiring, where he felt a wave of nostalgia. “I went to the European final and told Cathy, ‘This is what I miss’—the big games,” he shared. This experience made him realize how much he valued those high-stakes moments that come with being a manager.

Ferguson has since made it a point to attend most European finals, finding joy in watching the games and connecting with the atmosphere he once lived in as a manager. “These are the important events that Manchester United should always be part of,” he stated, expressing his belief that the club belongs in the highest competitions.

Though he enjoys his retirement, Ferguson’s passion for football and deep connection to Manchester United remain strong. He continues to follow the team and has expressed hope that they will return to their winning ways. For him, being part of big matches and experiencing the thrill of competition is something he truly cherishes.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s reflections highlight not only his legendary status in football but also the emotional connection he has to the game and his former club. As Manchester United seeks to regain its place at the top, fans and players alike can appreciate the lasting impact Ferguson has had on the sport.
