The Niger-Kogi Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has recently made a significant seizure in the fight against drug trafficking by seizing 283 wraps of cannabis sativa.

This operation culminated in the transfer of the seized drugs to the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Minna, marking a critical success in efforts to combat illegal drug trade in the region.

The estimated duty-paid value of the confiscated cannabis sativa is a staggering N5,666,000. This substantial figure underscores the scale of the drug problem facing Nigeria and the importance of ongoing law enforcement efforts.

The successful seizure not only removes a dangerous substance from the streets but also sends a strong message to traffickers about the vigilance of the Customs Service.

Comptroller Pascal Chibuoke, head of the Niger-Kogi Command, addressed the press regarding the command’s activities over the past four weeks. He detailed the successful operations that led to the seizure of cannabis, along with the detention of nine vehicles involved in illegal activities.

The total estimated value of these vehicles exceeds N170 million, highlighting the command’s focus on tackling organized crime and ensuring that those who attempt to exploit the system face serious consequences.

Chibuoke praised his team for their hard work and dedication, emphasizing that their resilience has played a key role in these recent successes.

He expressed confidence that the command would continue to recognize and reward officers who demonstrate excellence in their duties.

This commitment to team morale and motivation is essential in maintaining high standards of performance within the organization.

In receiving the cannabis sativa on behalf of the NDLEA, Niger State Commander Shehu Gwadabawa expressed his gratitude for the collaboration between agencies. He highlighted the critical importance of joint efforts in combating illicit drug activities.

This partnership not only enhances operational effectiveness but also fosters a stronger unified front against the challenges posed by drug trafficking.

Gwadabawa noted that cooperation among law enforcement agencies is vital for addressing the complexities of drug-related crimes.

He urged for continued collaboration and resource sharing to ensure a comprehensive approach to the drug problem. The fight against drug trafficking requires not only local efforts but also national and international cooperation to be truly effective.

The recent seizure and the collaborative efforts between the Customs Service and NDLEA represent a proactive stance against the growing threat of drug abuse and trafficking in Nigeria.

The authorities remain committed to intensifying their efforts, conducting regular operations, and engaging communities to raise awareness about the dangers of drug use.

The Niger-Kogi Command’s successful seizure of cannabis sativa and the collaborative work with the NDLEA exemplify a strong commitment to fighting drug trafficking.

Ongoing vigilance, teamwork, and community engagement are essential components in this battle, aiming to create a safer environment for all citizens.

The Customs Service and NDLEA continue to stand firm against illicit drug activities, ensuring that they remain a formidable force against those who threaten the safety and well-being of society.
