Fayose’s open support for Gov Oyebanji’s Re-Election is faulty—Bode George affirms

…says ex-governor will be investigated for possible sanction.

The political tussle in Ekiti State has taken a new turn as Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) party chieftain, Bode George, has faulted former governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, for declaring support for the re-election of the incumbent governor of the state, Biodun Oyebanji, who is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The staunch PDP leader noted that they will start investigating the ex-governor from his ward to know if he will be sanctioned for anti-party activities.

Geroge, during a conversation on Monday’s edition of Channels Television’s Politics Today, affirmed that there was an issue somewhere if the ex-governor truly declared his open support for Oyebanji of the APC.

According to him, Fayose’s alleged open rejection of his party, the PDP, and promise to support and work for the APC governor was a pointer to his alignment, noting that arrangements would be made from his ward to conduct an investigation within the confines of Ekiti State before they will report at the national level.

He added, “Ayo knows that you cannot say you are a member of this party and a former two-term governor of a party to now say you are working openly for the governor of the opposition party; something is wrong,” George said.

Earlier, on a similar platform, the former PDP governor had poured encomium on the incumbent Governor Oyebanji, attesting that the PDP would require a miracle to defeat him in the off-cycle gubernatorial election in 2026.

“As of today, I am a member of the PDP; the governor is a member of the APC; but the meeting point is that I am a leader in Ekiti. Like I told you, it’s either we lie we die, or we say the truth we die. Governor Oyebanji has done exceedingly well.” Fayose declared.

Fayose, who premised his statement of current realities, mentioned that except something changes between now and that election, the APC governor would have a smooth sail at the re-election.

He said, “Forget the party; let us be realistic—the PDP is in a bad crisis in Ekiti too; anybody can come here and deny I don’t care.”

However, the PDP chieftain, Bode George, was optimistic that the party could resolve the crisis rocking its boat while explaining that it is not unusual for a party to go through trying times, but what is happening in the PDP now is not the best approach.

He vented his disappointment that the PDP members are allowing personal interests to disturb the peace within the party, stressing that the party interest must always come before personal interest for there to be a lasting peace in the PDP.

He appealed to the conflicting sides in the party to desist from exposing the party to a public show and allow peace to reign.
