Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, alongside the South West leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have intensified its campaign efforts for the party’s candidate in the upcoming Ondo State governorship election, Agboola Ajayi.
The campaign strategy includes outreach to various key locations, such as markets, palaces, and community centers, aiming to win over voters ahead of the November 16 poll. According to the PDP South West Publicity Secretary, Chief Sanya Atofarati, the team has been visiting prominent places like Bolorunduro, Ondo, and Owo, as well as meeting with influential figures, including the Osemawe of Ondo.
“Our engagements have extended to the Labour House in Akure, where we met with retired permanent secretaries and directors,” Atofarati said. “The feedback has been very positive, with the people showing a strong resolve to vote for the PDP candidate, Agboola Ajayi.”
Atofarati emphasized that the PDP’s legacy projects in Ondo State have withstood the test of time, contrasting this with what he described as the lack of significant achievements by the current administration under the All Progressives Congress (APC). He argued that the people of Ondo are dissatisfied with the state’s governance over the past eight years, expressing a desire for change.
“The people of Ondo are in pain and are looking for an alternative,” Atofarati stated. “They remember the impactful projects delivered by previous PDP governments. If those were removed, there would be little left in the state in terms of lasting development.”
However, the APC has dismissed these campaign efforts as mere theatrics. Wale Akinlosotu, the Ondo State Commissioner for Information, described Governor Adeleke’s presence and the PDP’s activities as a “jamboree,” predicting an unsuccessful outcome for the opposition party.
“The people of Ondo are solidly behind Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the APC,” Akinlosotu countered. “His projects and initiatives have resonated well with the electorate, and they are eager to re-elect him to continue delivering life-transforming developments.”
Akinlosotu also noted that several key PDP stakeholders in Ondo have defected to the APC, which he claimed signals broad acceptance of Aiyedatiwa’s leadership.
