The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially congratulated Ondo State Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa on securing a second term in office following his victory in the just-concluded gubernatorial election. Aiyedatiwa’s re-election has been met with widespread approval from party leaders and supporters, marking a significant win for the ruling party in Ondo State.
Governor Aiyedatiwa emerged victorious with a total of 366,781 votes across all 18 local government areas, significantly outpacing his closest rival, Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 117,845 votes. The results reflect a strong mandate for Aiyedatiwa’s administration, signalling continued support for his policies and governance style.
In an official statement released on Sunday by the APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party hailed Aiyedatiwa’s victory as a testament to his effective leadership and the positive reception of his administration’s policies by the electorate. Morka noted that the governor’s campaign message of hope and consolidation resonated deeply with the people, highlighting the trust they place in him to continue steering the state towards greater development.
“The All Progressives Congress (APC) heartily congratulates the Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, on his well-deserved re-election,” Morka stated. “Your Excellency’s resounding victory in this gubernatorial election is a clear affirmation that your administration’s policies and campaign message have deeply connected with the electorate. This renewed mandate is a call to build upon your achievements and take Ondo State to greater heights of social and economic development.”
Morka emphasized the importance of the electorate’s trust in the governor, suggesting that Aiyedatiwa’s administration has laid a strong foundation for future growth and prosperity in the state. He noted that the results indicate a vote of confidence in the APC’s governance style and a clear rejection of opposition attempts to unseat the incumbent.
The party also took the opportunity to commend the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its professionalism and the conduct of a largely peaceful election. Morka highlighted the role of the electoral body in ensuring a transparent process, which contributed to the credibility of the results.
“We commend the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its dedication to upholding democratic values and conducting a fair, credible election. Their professionalism and adherence to due process have been commendable, ensuring that the voice of the Ondo electorate was heard loud and clear,” Morka added.
The APC also praised the security agencies for their efforts in maintaining order throughout the election period. The presence of law enforcement was significant in ensuring the safety of voters and the smooth running of the electoral process, preventing any major disruptions or violence that could have marred the exercise.
“We extend our gratitude to the security agencies for their patriotism and professionalism in safeguarding the electoral process. Their efforts contributed greatly to the peaceful atmosphere that characterised the polls. This election is a victory not just for the APC but for the entire democratic process in Ondo State,” the statement read.
The APC’s appreciation was also extended to the electorate, who came out in large numbers to exercise their civic duty. The party acknowledged the voters’ role in the democratic process, emphasizing their valued support for the APC and its leadership in Ondo State.
“We thank the people of Ondo State for their steadfast support and for believing in our party’s vision. The voter turnout and the overwhelming mandate given to Governor Aiyedatiwa reflect the confidence the people have in our agenda for progress and development,” Morka concluded.
At the State Collation Centre in Akure, the state capital, the final results were officially announced by the State Returning Officer, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi. Declaring Aiyedatiwa the winner, Akinwumi stated, “Having satisfied the requirement of the law and received the highest number of votes, Aiyedatiwa Lucky Orimisan of the All Progressives Congress is hereby returned elected as the Governor of Ondo State.”
The victory of Governor Aiyedatiwa is seen as a significant endorsement of his past performance and a call for the continuation of his development agenda. His focus on economic growth, infrastructure, and social welfare is expected to gain momentum in his second term, with plans already being discussed to further boost agriculture and industrialization in the state.
This outcome also serves as a boost for the APC in the southwest region, reinforcing its influence and setting a precedent for future elections. Party leaders have expressed optimism that Aiyedatiwa’s second term will bring about substantial improvements, aligning with the overall vision of the APC to enhance the well-being of the people through good governance and sustainable development.
The APC has called on all stakeholders to support the governor in delivering on his promises, urging the opposition parties to join hands in fostering a collaborative environment for the benefit of Ondo State.
