An Iyaganku Magistrate Court in Ibadan has ordered the remand of a 25-year-old man, Isaac Akinola, for allegedly conspiring with others to fatally assault a 30-year-old man, John Kome. The incident reportedly occurred on November 20 in Ogbomosho, Oyo State.
Presiding Magistrate Oluwabusayo Osho declined to take Akinola’s plea, citing a lack of jurisdiction over the murder charge. Instead, she directed the police to forward the case file to the Oyo State Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice. The case was adjourned until February 19, 2025, for mention.
Police prosecutor Inspector Olalekan Adegbite informed the court that Akinola and his accomplices conspired to beat Kome to death. The alleged offense violates Sections 516 and 319 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000, which address conspiracy and murder.
Akinola’s role in the fatal assault has raised questions about the motive behind the attack and the involvement of other suspects. As investigations continue, the police are working to establish the circumstances leading to the tragic incident and to identify the other individuals involved.
