Liverpool has entered the race to sign Lazio’s highly rated midfielder, Nicolo Rovella, who is also being pursued by Premier League champions Manchester City. Reports earlier this week revealed that City had enquired about the 23-year-old, with a reported €40 million bid on the table as a potential replacement for the injured Rodri. However, Lazio’s president, Claudio Lotito, quickly responded, insisting that the midfielder is not for sale. Despite this, interest in Rovella continues to build, with La Repubblica reporting that Liverpool is now also keen on acquiring the Italy international.
Unlike City, who are in urgent need of reinforcement due to Rodri’s injury, Liverpool finds themselves in a strong position in the Premier League, which gives them the luxury of waiting until the summer to make a move. The Reds, therefore, are prepared to bide their time and make a more calculated approach for the midfielder.
Rovella’s rise has been rapid since joining Lazio in the summer of 2023 on a two-year loan deal from Juventus, with an obligation to buy. Despite a challenging first season, the Genoa youth product has impressed this term, establishing himself as one of the top deep-lying playmakers in Italian football. His performances have significantly contributed to Lazio’s improved form, making him one of the most sought-after young talents in Serie A.
