Several people were killed and many others were injured in Saturday’s oil tanker explosion that shook Niger State.
After some locals went to get the content of the gasoline-laden tanker, it was reported that the tanker exploded.
Many people were completely burned to death in the explosion that happened at Dikko junction near the Abuja-Kaduna motorway, according to media reporters on the site.
Following an accident, locals reportedly tried to scoop the content of the tanker carrying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and it exploded.
Several others were said to have suffered varying degrees of burns, while scores were reported to have died from burns.
The act has shocked Umaru Bago, the governor of Niger State.
According to Bologi Ibrahim, the governor’s chief press secretary, the governor called the incident “unfortunate, heartbreaking, and worrisome.”
He prayed that Allah would heal the wounded and rest the souls of the deceased, and he expressed sympathy to the families of the blast victims.
The governor, however, cautioned the people to always be responsible and give priority to their safety.
He directed all the relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to do what was necessary, while urging the security agents to ensure security in the area.
