Katsina State Government has announced a groundbreaking initiative to inject N3 billion into community development and minor infrastructure projects across all 361 electoral wards in the state. Governor Dikko Umaru Radda revealed the plan during a two-day sensitization program organized for local government chairmen, emphasizing the importance of grassroots participation and transparent governance.
As part of the initiative, the state government will establish ward-level accounts, each credited with N10 million to fund local development projects. Governor Radda urged communities to take ownership of these projects, stressing that proposals must be submitted by local committees for consideration before funds are disbursed.
“This programme reflects our administration’s unwavering commitment to grassroots development,” Radda said. “We are empowering communities to identify and prioritize their needs, ensuring that no one is left behind.” Additionally, existing television viewing centers will serve as coordinating offices for the initiative, further strengthening its accessibility and community involvement.
The governor also unveiled measures to support agricultural sustainability in the state. This includes the procurement of six tube well drilling machines and dredging equipment, which are expected to facilitate year-round farming activities, improving food security and boosting local economies.
Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Bashir Tanimu Gambo, described the program as a game-changer for empowering communities to take charge of their development. He called on council chairmen to actively participate in the initiative’s implementation, ensuring it meets the unique needs of each ward.
The program consultant, Dr. Haruna Abba, emphasized the inclusive nature of the project, stating that it transcends political affiliations and aims to address pressing development gaps.
