Kwankwaso Accuses APC of Undermining Kano Democracy, Sparks National Debate

The accusation made by Rabiu Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the 2023 election, that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is attempting to surreptitiously gain control of Kano State has been vehemently denounced by the ruling party as grossly insensitive, unwarranted, and intolerable. Kwankwaso had criticized the Federal Government for its alleged bias in the ongoing Kano Emir dispute.
He claimed that the APC-led administration was scheming to subvert the democratically elected structures in the state by imposing a state of emergency.
Nevertheless, in a statement released on Tuesday, Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, expressed disappointment in Kwankwaso’s remarks given his stature. Morka emphasized that Kwankwaso should have sought out and exhausted all peaceful and political avenues to resolve the royal conflict instead of escalating tensions and discord.

The APC official pointed out that the ruling party anticipated Kwankwaso to exhibit a high level of discretion and a deeper understanding of the serious social, political, and security ramifications of reckless statements that could stoke unrest and discord in Kano.

Morka further lamented that Kwankwaso had accused the Federal Government of trying to breed a new generation of Boko Haram militants in Kano, despite the government’s neutral stance on the emirate crisis in Kano from the outset. He stated, “The All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken note of the comments reportedly attributed to Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, the former Governor of Kano State and the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), in which he accuses the APC-led federal government of attempting to nurture a new crop of Boko Haram terrorists and insurgents in Northern Nigeria.
“Without any substantiated evidence, he further alleged that certain individuals within the APC were instigating the federal government to intervene in Kano State by declaring a state of emergency.”
