Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has called for a credible and transparent governorship election in the state on August 15.

Governor Adeleke emphasised that the integrity of the ballot must be protected.

The governor made the statement while receiving members of the Public Accounts Committee of the House of Representatives at the Government House in Osogbo during an official visit on Monday.

Addressing the lawmakers, Governor Adeleke said the forthcoming poll represents a significant democratic exercise not only for Osun State but also for Nigeria’s broader electoral process.

He said ensuring that citizens’ votes were respected remained essential for strengthening democratic institutions in the country.

According to the governor, “Credible election is not optional but a compulsory process to safeguard the democratic system.”

Adeleke noted that the Osun governorship election would attract national and international attention as it is expected to be one of the last major elections before the 2027 general elections.

“For us in Osun State, August 15 is a critical phase for national democratic evolution. As the last major election before the general elections of 2027, Osun is in the eyes of the nation and the world,” he said.

The governor added that all stakeholders must ensure the process reflects the true will of the electorate through a free and fair voting process.

During the meeting, Adeleke also highlighted several projects executed by his administration.

He explained that governance in the state has focused on completing abandoned projects and initiating new ones across different sectors.

He stated that the government had also been addressing inherited financial obligations, including unpaid salaries and pension arrears, while implementing programmes in areas such as health, education, agriculture, infrastructure and economic development.

Earlier, the Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Public Accounts Committee, Jeremiah Umar, commended the governor for ongoing infrastructural development across the state.

Umar said, “When we were coming, we saw flyovers in different places in Osogbo and other towns. Opposite the State Government Secretariat, we also saw a dual carriageway under construction, which shows significant development activities.”

He further said residents who interacted with the visiting delegation spoke about improvements in public services, including the renovation of primary healthcare centres and progress recorded by state-owned universities.
