Prior to the upcoming governorship election in Edo State on September 21, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), along with his running mate Osarodion Ogie, have introduced their comprehensive plan. They have emphasized their commitment to addressing security challenges and promoting agricultural development if they are elected.
Their plan, titled “Pathway to Prosperity For All,” was officially presented to the press in Benin City, the capital of the state. The document outlines the strategies proposed by the PDP candidates to elevate the standard of living in Edo State, focusing on key areas such as security, women and youth empowerment, education, agriculture, food security, as well as rural and community development.
Moreover, the manifesto emphasizes the importance of caring for the elderly, respecting traditional and religious institutions, promoting industrialization, protecting children and vulnerable individuals in society, and leveraging the diaspora to enhance collaboration and development across the state. The candidates are optimistic that by creating platforms for active engagement and recognizing valuable skills and investments, they can establish an environment of cooperation and mutual respect that will propel the state to greater heights.
In particular, the campaign organizers have a message for the youth, “You are the leaders of today, not just the future. We are dedicated to supporting and investing in your potential by expanding educational opportunities, offering bursaries to eligible students, enhancing job training programs, and fostering an environment that nurtures your innovative ideas and entrepreneurial spirit. Our commitment is to protect your rights, amplify your voices, and ensure your equal participation in all facets of society. We pledge to implement policies that safeguard your health, advance your education, and enhance your economic well-being.”
Furthermore, the candidates have pledged to uphold the significant role of religious and traditional institutions, the elderly, and other key stakeholders in promoting the spiritual and moral welfare of the state. They plan to engage in meaningful dialogues and partnerships to cultivate peace, tolerance, and mutual understanding among different faiths.
Additionally, they have promised to provide essential services, such as healthcare and social support (including free public transportation), specifically tailored to meet the needs of the elderly and other community members. The AI/O2 initiative, spearheaded by Asue Ighodalo and Osarodion Ogie, underscores their commitment to creating a conducive environment for growth and sustainability, implementing policies to bolster economic stability, offering incentives, and streamlining regulatory processes to position Edo State as the most business-friendly state.
