The atmosphere at the NYSC orientation camp in Asaya, Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State was filled with joy and excitement as members of the Batch B, Stream 1, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posted to the state received a pleasant surprise from Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo. The governor, represented by his Deputy, Comrade Joel Salifu, announced a generous N20,000 cash token for each of the 1,326 corps members posted to serve in the state during their passing out ceremony from their orientation camp.

Emphasizing his administration’s commitment to the welfare and safety of Corps members serving in the state, Governor Ododo reiterated the importance of supporting the youth. The largess is part of the government’s broader initiative to promote the welfare of Corps members and provide them with the necessary assistance, especially for transportation to their various places of primary assignment.

Governor Ododo urged the Corps members to use the service year as an opportunity to engage in skill acquisition and entrepreneurship programs, setting the stage for self-reliance in the future. He pledged maximum security for the Corps members and promised to create a conducive environment for them to carry out their assignments. Additionally, he called on residents of the state to prioritize the welfare of the Corps members upon their posting, fostering a welcoming and supportive environment for these young individuals.

Hon. Monday Aridaojo Anyebe, the state Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development and Chairman of the state NYSC Governing Board, hailed the efforts of the NYSC Coordinator, staff, and collaborating agencies for ensuring a successful Orientation Course for the Corps members. He reiterated the governor’s commitment to rewarding the Corps members during their passing out from NYSC, with special recognition for the best-performing Corps members.

The gesture from Governor Ododo was met with overwhelming gratitude from many of the Corps members. Sandra Okon, a beneficiary, expressed her appreciation, stating, “This generous act from Governor Ododo showcases his support for the youth of Kogi State. It will greatly assist us as we transition to the next phase of settling down in the state.”

The passing out ceremony was attended by state officials, NYSC coordinators, and other dignitaries who praised the governor’s initiative. They encouraged the Corps members to serve as ambassadors of Kogi State, building meaningful relationships that would benefit both themselves and the state at large.

The announcement of the N20,000 largess from Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo exemplifies the state government’s commitment to the growth and well-being of its youth population. This act of generosity not only recognizes the important contributions of Corps members but also reinforces the value placed on their service within the community. As the Corps members prepare to embark on their primary assignments, they carry with them the support and encouragement of the Kogi State government, setting the stage for a successful and fulfilling service year.
