Former Nigerian President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo praised the recent re-election of Rwandan President Paul Kagame, emphasizing it as a clear testament to the trust and confidence the Rwandan people have in him. In a heartfelt congratulatory message, personally signed and released to the press by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo extended his warm regards and felicitations to President Kagame on securing another term in office.
Obasanjo, who also served as Chairman of the African Union, hailed Kagame’s victory in the presidential election held on July 15, 2024. He commended the Rwandan people for endorsing Kagame’s leadership once again, acknowledging their belief in his ability to guide the nation forward with vision and strong leadership qualities.
“In light of Your Excellency’s resounding victory,” Obasanjo conveyed, “I extend my heartfelt congratulations and joy on securing the mandate of your people to lead the country for another term.”

He further underscored Kagame’s re-election as a significant affirmation of the widespread trust and confidence placed in him by the citizens of Rwanda. Obasanjo expressed optimism that Kagame’s continued leadership would enhance the nation’s peace, security, and prosperity, building upon the achievements already made.
“As you embark on this renewed mandate,” Obasanjo stated, “I pray for Your Excellency’s sustained good health to enable you to consolidate and build upon the positive outcomes achieved thus far.”
In conclusion, Obasanjo addressed President Kagame warmly, referring to him as “Mr. President and Dear Brother,” and assured him of his highest consideration. The congratulatory message not only celebrates Kagame’s electoral success but also highlights the enduring friendship and mutual respect between the two African leaders.
Obasanjo’s remarks encapsulate a spirit of solidarity and goodwill, affirming the importance of leadership continuity and the collective aspirations for peace and development across Africa. Obasanjo’s recognition of Kagame’s leadership extends beyond the political realm, emphasizing the personal bond and respect shared between the two leaders. This camaraderie serves as a testament to the importance of fostering relationships among African nations to promote unity and collaboration on the continent.

As Rwanda continues its journey under Kagame’s guidance, there is a shared hope for sustained progress and development in various sectors, including the economy, education, and healthcare. The re-election of Kagame not only signifies continuity but also symbolizes a commitment to advancing Rwanda’s position on the global stage.
In the realm of international relations, Kagame’s leadership has been instrumental in strengthening Rwanda’s diplomatic ties and enhancing its reputation as a progressive nation. The support and admiration expressed by leaders like Obasanjo further solidify Rwanda’s standing in the international community, paving the way for continued partnerships and mutual cooperation.

Looking ahead, the collective efforts of African leaders like Kagame and Obasanjo set a positive example for the future of governance on the continent. By prioritizing good governance, sustainable development, and regional integration, they inspire a new generation of leaders to uphold the values of integrity, accountability, and inclusivity in their leadership roles.
In essence, Obasanjo’s message not only celebrates Kagame’s victory but also underscores the significance of leadership rooted in service, dedication, and a genuine commitment to the well-being of the people. As Africa navigates its path towards prosperity and stability, the continued collaboration and support among its leaders will be pivotal in shaping a brighter future for the continent and its people.
